Portable-VirtualBox v4.1.4 released in beta

I have released a new version of Portable-VirtualBox that supports VirtualBox v4.1.4: http://www.vbox.me/files/Portable-Virtua…4.5-Win_all.exe . Unfortunately this have taken some time because of changes in the VirtualBox installer.

Have also added at pool to the www.vbox.me site where people can vote on whether this version do's work or not. After a couple of hours the vote sits at 13 votes=works, 4 votes=broken.

Bridged networking is not working. In thread for version 4.1.2 I wrote procedure for making it work.

Please stand by. I will investigate this. May be some planed maintenance on the power distribution at the datasenter where we we host the download server.

Hi,


The link to download the new version seems not to work (size download file is 0 ko with firefox, and Error 324 (net::ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE) with Chrome)

Someone does the same problem ?

Sorry for any inconvenience. Looks like the server that host the .exe files is down. This is the 3 Sunday in a row that this has happen. Can't be a coincident can it?

I will add a mirror locatoin for the .exe files as soon as possible. Then also consider switching hosting company.

Hi runarb,
Just downloaded the stable vesion, i'll test soon.
Two question:

1) You have update the icon for setup but not for the .exe ( Portable-VirtualBox.exe )
Do you have some problem with my icon?

2) I have the previus version ( 4.0.10 ) on my system. I have to delete only the ".Virtualbox" folder in Documents or there are other folder/regkey on the system?

Did you use the latest version: http://www.vbox.me/files/Portable-Virtua…4.7-Win_all.exe ?

I used the same blue-box icon for both the .exe and setup file. Unfortunately there was some errors when building the beta version v4.1.4-Starter_v6.4.5 taht made it get a different icon, but that is straiten out in the latest stable version.

I'm not sure I understand your question, but her goes. If you want to update from one version of Portable-VirtualBox to an other there are instructions on how to do so her: http://www.vincentkong.com/2009/11/upgra…able-virtualbox . If you have installed VirtualBox on you computer Portable-VirtualBox will use it. You will either have to download and install the latest version from https://www.virtualbox.org/ on you computer, or uninstall it so Portable-VirtualBox can use it's own version .

I have w7 x64, just installed. No previus version of Virtualbox installed.
Right now i'm using the starter v4.0.10

I have this folder in my document:
.Virtualbox

This folder is created by your laucher. The new starter ( 4.1.4 ) have the .Virtualbox folder in the same directory of the Portable-Virtualbox.exe, i'll test it on a virtual machine.
So that folder in document, if i'm upgrade to the new starter, is not used anymore.
So the question is:
There are other folder or registry key i have to deleted before upgrade to the new starter?

Only keep your data folder in portable directory, no other files, folders or registry keys needed.

I know the difference ;)
I'm using now this stable version of the starter, the:
Portable-VirtualBox_v4.0.10-Starter_v6.4.5-Win_all.exe
This starter is for VirtualBox v4.0.10

I have in \User a directory called:
.Virtualbox

The starter create it, because i don't have Virtualbox installed on my system.
There are other directory outside the original Portable-VirtualBox folder?

Have got my day job (Searchdaimon As) to pay for cdn hosting at Amazon aws. So the server outrages that has happen the 3 last Sundays in a row should be a thing of the past.
