Updated to 4.0.0 and keyboard/mouse no longer working

All,

I'm using virtualbox to boot lubuntu from a usb stick. I recently upgraded to 4.0.0. My keyboard works at the grub screen; however, when I reach lubuntu's login screen, the keyboard stops responding. In addition, mouse clicks no longer work.

I'd appreciate your input.
