@ dice12345:

Welcome at German Win-Lite Forum!

There is a typo within the text. Please post the exact name of the in-use Intel SATA AHCI Controller.
Another question: Did you load/integrate any AHCI driver, when you tried to get XP installed? If yes, please post the exact name and the version of the used driver.

I really have no idea, which issue may have caused your troubles. Maybe it's the Virtual Box software itelf.

Usually you should be able to get Windows 7 installed without any problems.
When you are going to install Windows XP, you have to integrate an actual Intel AHCI driver (for your purpose I recommend to take a driver of the "Matrix Storage Manager" series). You will find my English language guide about the integration procedure within the start post of >this< thread.

i did get xp installed, by installing it into virtualbox by using my desktop and it runs fine, but it will not run if I try and run it on my laptop virtual box will crash.

so I guess there is something about virtualbox does not like about my laptop

I have also intalled the regular version virtualbox (non portable on my laptop) and I was able to run my xp vdi file with no problems so that makes me belive this is an issue with the portable version of virtualbox

a

I realize this thread is over a year old now but just incase anyone else runs into this issue i wanted to post.

I too ran into this issue, I'm sure there are more than 1 cause to these crashes but one i haven't seen this mentioned/acknowledged.
Seems if you extract VirtualBox with the "Compress files to reduce size" option checked it causes some crashes on certain computers, including my own.
When i tried extracting WITHOUT "Compress files to reduce size" the crashes did not occur anymore.

Hope this helps someone!
